Doctor Cavanaugh's Review in Jamma on Sickle Sell Disease
There is a huge crisis going on in the united states with respect to the opioid epidemic. Patients with sickl savdisease often are experiencing both severe acute pain crises as well as chronic pain, and face enormous barriers to being managed appropriately. These patients really have a severe underlying disease and should be taken out of the restrictions that other individuals face with respect to opioid prescribing. We have not seen any change over the last 15 years in the sickle cell population; we've seen enormous changes in the general population of the states.
