Is There a Connection Between Peep and Lung Injury?

There is some fit or connection between how much peep you're offering the patient and how much stuff that's not air is in their lungs. A very clean looking chest X-ray in a very high peep still doesn't make a lot of sense. It may encourage lung injury because it's additional positive pressure in the lungs. But attenuating that is probably always good for lung injury, but will be worse for oxygenation.
