Change always starts with ourselves, and that's the only thing that we can really take immediate and constant responsibility for as ourselves. So i always encourage people to start by educating yourself about the current issues that affect you,. Your children should have a student handbook that describes the policies for the school. And if it doesn't show up there, then, yes, as a parent, you absolutely have the right and the responsibility to call up the administration  and say, i'm curious about the school's policy on this. But it really does take that squeaky wheel to finally force the school to say, ok, this is a priority.
