Is the US a Transcontinental Nation in the 19th Century?
The east was increasing its population and the west was largely vacant. American politicians are kind of like politicians everywhere, they want more power,. They want more glory and one way that politicians exert their ambitions is by territorial expansion. We could say that the US government in the early 19th century realizes that there are various political self-defense factors which would need them to take over the West.
