Islamic Law and the Death Penalty

The sunna includes a number of instances where mohammed lays down the law with brutal severity. In one account, the prophet ordered two slave girls executed for attacking him in poetical songs. The reliability of these sayings are probably impossible to resolve and some argue they were invented to suit the nder of later rulers who needed prophetic blessings for their repression of descent. All the four dominant suni schools of islamic law agree that apostasy is punishable by death.
