In Les Miserables, Jean Valgion steals the priest's candlesticks. The cops bring him back to the priest and say that we found this guy with your candlesticks,. But he says, no, actually, I gave them to him. Let him go. And by doing that, he imposes a vow on Jean ValGion. He says, remember that you have sworn your soul to God. It is obviously exactly the scenario or very close to the scenario of Jean Val gion and the priest in Les Miserable.
