Hideo Sagawa first came to the US in the 1990s and Americans were not doing well fashion-wise. After spending the 20th century as ivy icons of the world, Americans suddenly found themselves totally at a loss for what to wear. You could see our national sartorial confusion play out in shows like What Not To Wear and Queer Eye for the Straight Guy.
