It is indisputable that social uplift and the desire for emancipation, social emancipation was part of the motivation to become Christian among Dalits as well. They occupied some of the most menial positions in Indian society associated with the removal of animals from roadways,. dead animals and the consumption of carrion. When they became Christian, there was this change in terms of their sense of dignity and their sense of self understanding that they were not polluted people. And that was an important motivation for them to become Christian.
