How Does the HCI Compare Real Estate to the Dollar?
The Hartman comparison index looks at 42 items, including real estate and gold. In 1970, if you wanted to buy the median single family home, it took 654 ounces of gold. But in 1980, it only took 97 ounces of gold for that same house. Today, it takes about 227 ounces of gold to buy the Median Price House. If people are stuck in their homes, they're not going to be able to move without major renovations.
