Transgenic Chestnut Blight
The disease of chestnut bligt came to north America, and it was discovered on a tree in the bronk zoo in 19 o fivei came from trees in asia. The reason the transgentic approach might be preferable to breeding is a chestnut trees are all clones, like bananas, so couldn't really do much there. B chestnut trees have a long cycle from seed to flower, so each generation takes a long time, and breeding is exceedingly slow. Or c it is extremely hard to cross chestnuts because pollen viabil and receptiveness of the stigma are differentially controlled to discourage cross polination.
