In 19 52, the american psychiatric association included homosexual y in its new diagnostic and statistical manual of mental disorders. At the next year, eisenhawer passed an executive order that prohibited homosexuals from working for the federal government. And this is where you see kind of a split happening. A big faction of it just became all about acceptance into main stream culture. It's also world wide. I mean, right after the soviet union collapsed, russia had de criminalized all same sex activity,. which was a full decade before the us.
