Ramayana is one of the first stories I remember hearing. My mother loves to say that, oh, she is interested in Ramayana because the monkey bit her when she was three years old. So there's a mythological aspect to my connection with the Ravana. This is a story I first heard from Rajni and it took me 20 years to come back to this story. We are in English speaking household. We were in Kolkata in the 60s where the whole sort of Mahal was still very Raj.
The Ramayana is not one book, but a living text with countless versions across languages, each reflecting the values of its time and place.
