In 2006, I met with John Paulson's hedge fund which famously made billions betting against the housing market. They told me on average, they're going to lose 1% a month. And that was too big of a loss for me to take every month if I wanted to keep raising money. So as successful as their strategy has been, they still have had trouble raising money from institutions like pension funds. That's been the universe's experience is that big investors are really reluctant to give them money because to them, it looks like a line item.
