The people of medea, now northwestern iran, revolted against the assyrian despotism. They refused to give ultimate power to any one man or establish a monarchy without a leader. The country soon fell into chaos and fractured into small kingdoms. In one such village lived a man named deoses who made a name for himself for his ability to settle disputes. He became the sole arbiter of justice in the land but then decided he had had enough. Without him, crime increased,. contempt for the law was never greater.
