Dr. Chapman in 1887 pointed out that only six animals have an appendix. The idea that the appendix was vestigial became pretty popular as we're moving into the late 1800s, early 1900s. It's like when I was a kid where it's like anything else that they're in there for, they'll just go ahead and take the tonsils. So people seem to do just fine.
