The stages of change model is critical for advisors when they meet a client who may be pushing back. People disproportionately remembered the good stuff and sort of shoveled the bad stuff under the rug which is human nature. The first stage of change is not really a time to change at all because you're not even aware that there's anything to do. They call it pre-contemplation.
