I think reading that I'm reading it as she hasn't told him that she has that money stashed away. So he doesn't know it exists. That's how I'm interpreting the message anyway. If an emergency fund is so ingrained in the way that you've been doing budget and cash flow, then maybe it just didn't come up because it actually wasn't a joint asset. It wasn't a part of the joint decision making. Like, if you were saving for a house, like you're not going to use your emergency fund to go towards the house.
