The Brooklyn Navy Yard's Dry Dock

The Brooklyn Navy Yard has one of America's greatest dry docks. Dry dock was heavily used during the Civil War when hundreds of commercial ships sailed into Wall about Bay for conversion into battleships. At least 16 new warships were created here during that war. The yard also played a role in the creation of the Union's most famous ship, the USS Monitor.
