Is There a Galactic Colonization Project?
If we ever discover an alien super-civilization far away, we might actually be able to somewhat guess something about its values by the way it's spreading. But then there is this problem that if we go extinct because we might have a mishap with our galactic colonization project that just blows up in our faces, then we lose all the future. We might actually be willing to say, okay, we're going to go slow. I might personally want to see the stars, but I'm willing to give that up if only to guarantee that future energy.
