The South African War on Chemical Weapons

In the mid 1970s, South Africa got involved in a civil war in Angola fighting on the side of anti-communist rebels. In 1976, after the last South African troops left Angola, students in the Soweto Township of Johannesburg protested against the mandatory teaching of Africans in school. This convinced the South African defense forces that Cuban soldiers were preparing to use chemical weapons against them. Now it's possible that this never happened. Everything I'm telling you now is based on war crimes trials conducted in the mid 1990s,. But the South African military establishment claims that fears of Cuban chemical weapons is what drove them to start developing their own chemical weapons program.
