The kidney diet for patients with CKD is particularly hard to follow. The vast majority of people with chronic kidney disease have no trouble staying in electrolyte balance. But there's this kind of body of evidence led by a woman named Nimrat Gauroya down at Baylor Scott in White in Texas. She noticed, hey, fruits, vegetables, these have negative acid potential. They actually, they're alkalized by nature. And she's like, well, what if we just gave patients diets rich in fruits and vegetables? It's about as effective as sodium bicarbonate at maintaining GFR.
