Rightsir: One of the ideas that sometimes haunts me is a sentiment from george steiner that the humanities don't humanize. i wonder how you, as a humanist, would respond to the sort of concern that enjoying great ideas or great texts for their own sake just isn't enough to stop us from becoming complicit and evil. Rightsir: I'm thrilled you bring up steiner, because i have just been discovering again recently, how he's just the best thinkeror for the kinds of problems i'm interested in, and for our current moment and so on.
