The Great Depression sent raw material prices plummeting everywhere. Oil worker and communist militancy pushed Iran to nationalize its oil on the eve of Prime Minister Mohammed Mosedek taking power. This labor militancy was, I think, it's fair to say present almost everywhere, significant amounts of oil were being produced. So what I tried to point out in the book is that the history of oil is also a history of social activism.
