How Much Less Energy Would We Need Today?
Electrify looks at both the supply and demand side changes that need to be made in order to truly decarbonize. How much less energy would we need to day if we just abandoned fossil fuels and which to clean energy to power our lives? With a heat pump, you can get about three times as much energy prety unit of primary energy as you can with natural gas. If you work backwards from ctrification to the supply side, you can see that you could do everything we do in the american economy to day, without shrinking anything or making it colder,. At about forty % of the energy input we use to day. And then we'd even use less than that.
