Do's and Don'ts for Separation Anxiety

Caroline shared some of her do's and don'ts for separation anxiety that she had shared with me before we recorded. She divided up into kind of before the separation during and after it just really helps parents to kind of have some structure in the chaos of it all so first of all is trying as best you can to do what you can to regulate your nervous system because if you show up a little bit calmer it does help you to co-regulate and calm your child in the moment. Caroline would also practice separation on a daily basis even in the house leaving them for five minutes then ten minutes fifteen minutes and so on and having a little goodbye ritual that you repeat.
