In 1939, the Justice Department sent a high-powered lawyer to investigate Louisiana's political machine. John Rocky brought federal charges against every level of Huey Long's Louisiana machine. But when that case fell apart in 1940, it was Rocky who took over the Christian Front sedition case and found them not guilty. In very quick succession, he went from triumph against all the odds in Louisiana to failure despite all the evidence in New York.
