Some researchers say it's only worth while doing a small study if you have the intention of following it up with a properly sized trial. Some researches argue that sometimes some data can be more harmful than nothing, because it gives a false impression of precision. So how ethical is it to put people through whatever your study protocol is, if the results are not going to be meaningful enough for people to take action on? Yes, that's a real concern.
