The Origins of Religion

Both religion and governments came about around the same time, the axial age, maybe five, six thousand years ago. When these kind of chieftains, bands, tribes and chieftains began to es into larger states and empires, you needed a way of resolving social conflict. The founding fathers of united states argued that for a a self governing society to operate, people need an internal governor. They need some kind of value, moral value system. And religion is one of those. It's a way of saying, look, even if you think you got away with it from r police, forst or whatever, you kow there's an eye in the sky that sees everything.
