Babies' sodium-potassium transporters are really immature. And so they have a decreased ability to secrete potassium. So that's why if you look at your handbooks in terms of normal potassiums, the potassium that is kind of considered normal in Harriet Lane is actually much higher in babies. But my clinical practice is not to just like decrease maintenance by a little bit but to stop it because I really believe that you got to have that osmotic drive and you really have to have that thirst drive.
