Introduction
December 1, 1993. Northwest AirLink Flight 5719 was a Jetstream 31 turboprop with 18 people on board. The pilots are clear to land on runway 31, but due to a tailwind they elect to land in the other direction on runway 13 instead. While on approach about two miles from the runway, the plane strikes some trees and impacts the ground killing all on board. Was weather a factor in this crash? Could this have been avoided?
