The Rise of EG.5 Variant
I think it's clear we're going to see sub variants like EG.5 and possibly some other offshoots grow in prevalence, but what remains to be seen is whether that growth will actually trigger increase in activity. As my dear friend and colleague, Eric Topo put in his latest piece on sub stack, the virus is learning new tricks. And one potential silver lining with the rise of an EG.5 is that the updated monovalent booster that we're rolling out in the US targets the spike protein of XBB, which is a close match to EG.5. So in that regard, we're working against time.
