The Rise and Fall of the Ottoman Empire
In 1396 the Ottoman army routed a force of French, Burgundian, German and Hungarian crusaders. Fifty-seven years after that, in 1453 the Ottomans would take Constantinople itself. But as Beazid looked out at those imposing walls, another factor was entering the equation. The warlord Timor de Link, Tamor late, had become one of the last of the great conquerors to follow Genghis Khan's footsteps.
