Law Enforcement and the Klan: A Troubling History

This chapter explores the historical complicity of local law enforcement in Ku Klux Klan violence during Reconstruction, revealing anecdotes of police involvement in Klan activities. It also examines the impact of these actions on the rights of newly freed Black individuals and discusses the limitations of simply diversifying police forces to address systemic issues surrounding race and violence.
