How your intellect will function simply depends on how you're identified. This is the second layer of intelligence, it's called aankara, identity. In yogic culture, when a child becomes twelve years of age, first thing we do is that the child should take a cosmic identity,. identify with a universe in which you exist. We are talking about a universe and cosmos, because if you say, stay here without identity, you don't know how to be. Your intellect cannot function without an identity, it needs that intent. So this is the power of identity.
