The ancient stoics considered the facts of nature and concluded there must be some inherent reason and order within the cosmos. To them, it was simply able to believe that all the marvels of life, including human reason, what we would call our consciousness, were the result of mere chance. Pierredo calls it an existential choice and argues that it is the fundamental choice of the stoics to see the world as providentially ordered. Nevertheless, the stoics did not simply accept the necessity of fate. They reached beyond bare and forbear. They stretched their arms wide, faced the heav ans and willingly chose to love all that the cosmos brought about.
