The focus of the book is trying to teach anybody, really, not necessarily specialists, but anybody who works in the business world a way that they can understand customers. The plot basically centers around this fictitious company, which is a chain of coffee shops. They're on the cusp at the beginning of the story of doing an IPO and raising funding to go national. And just at around that time when the story starts, they start to lose a lot of customers including some of their most loyal customers.
