Erdos is regarded as somebody who founded a kind of Hungarian school of mathematics. Hungary was proud enough of him that he was granted during the Cold War, a very special type of passport. He wound up almost boycotting his own 60th birthday conference in Hungary because the Israeli delegation was not allowed in. And now they're relaxed. A Jewish scholars welcome there now.
