stand-up comedy has its own language it has its own way of speaking. George Carlin famously did a bit about how you kill you crush right if you did well and you die if you if you bomb you bomb right there's all these words about violence um but this is happening in a million subcultures around the world at every single moment. It's such a beautiful thing about language and and all we can really do is is hope to describe it and and use it to understand each other rather than make rules around it.
Language changes, and that's not a bad thing! This week, Adam is joined by sociolinguist Valerie Fridland to uncover how language is much more malleable than we're led to believe, and how the resistance against new slang often disguises an attempt to limit the influence of marginalized communities.
