Shrimps suffocate when they're out of water or are it just very uncomfortable for them? They do asphyxia. In practice, they're putting the bare minimum ice on them, I suppose, because that's easier and saves costs. But there's at least one middleman between the farmer and the processing plan who really all he cares about is getting shrimps from point A to point B.
