The Catholic Story of the Violence of 1969
Nine people were killed and over one thousand catholics had to flee belfast. The violent action became known as the provisional i r a, or the provos. After 19 69, many young republican radicals become convinced that throwing sticks and stones at policemen would not be enough. They believed violence against anyone who helped prop up the british administration in northern ireland would be effective.
