Myanmar - The Tatmadaw and the Rohingya

In 2017, the Tatmadaw under Ming Anclan began a concerted campaign of genocidal ethnic cleansing against Rohingya people. In Myanmar, nobody spoke about the genocide, at least not in those terms. Government newspapers like the New Light of Myanmar published daily stories linking them to groups like ISIS or al-Qaeda. Bots popped up on Facebook and fed a steady diet of anti- Rohingya hate speech into the political discourse. And without better information, most people believed them.
