The concept of copus agroforestry is still practiced commercially and traditionally in the UK, and many other places in Europe. This is something that's been known to people for millennia and has been practiced for a long time. If it's maintained properly, you can cut those things that come off of it, the new stems, depending on the tree, every five to 20 years.
