He bought the homestead, the house that his father had built, and he had the wherewithal to buy it again. For him, it was reclamation of a family legacy. He added a veranda, which is a covered porch on the side of a house. A conservatory tucked into a corner on the south side of the house so emily could grow her exotic plants in winter time.
