The Nero Rydovivus Myth
Nero committed suicide in 68 AD, after a few powerful generals revolted. A legend sprouted that Nero had not actually died. The so-called Nero Rydovivus myth held that the emperor's suicide had been faked. In Christian legend, the story of the returned Nero became deeply linked with the concept of the Antichrist.
