The first impression of the cistine chapel is that of walking into a jewel box. When you go in, it's only a hundred and 34 feet long but forty four feet wide, 68 feet high. The thing i always found fascinating about going into the sisti chavel to day is that when we walk in to day, you're always told you mustn't sit down. And yet, actually, back in the day, the cardinals used to sit round on those steps. So we ought to be sitting down to understand how it was actually seen. I think people might also feel that the chapel is smaller than they've been expecting because it looms so large in the popular consciousness
