The Importance of Hope in the 1960s

Before all the cynicism that followed, there was a real idealism and optimism about America's involvement in Vietnam. I think what Vietnam among the many, many things that it did is that it began to end and erode that trust that we have in the people who occupy 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. And so if you were to consider the two people that you've presented as sort of states evidence A and B of this faith in the system, they are going to undergo unbelievable experiences in their lives.
