Henry George says if you treat land the same way you would wealth, then before you know it, you get poverty paradoxically advancing alongside progress. We see people with $500 billion on people who can't afford to eat. The reward you get from production by owning land is called rent. What you get just because you own the land that the labor was done on or to, just from owning it, that iscalled rent.
