Nuclear waste is treated to contain some of the radioactivity and there are a few ways to do this. On Carlo, in Finland, they think they have the answer. The fuel is packed in canisters made of 5 centimeter thick copper and a special kind of cast iron. In the tunnels, the canisters will be surrounded and submerged in bentonite clay.
