The Disappearance of the Shanty in Barcelona
There were shanty towns all over Barcelona and they were quite populous. Many people had to live in shared accommodation with whole families of 12 people in one room, expensive rent, very bad conditions. It was not only a story of economic migrants who were coming here because their conditions in Spain and the post-war were so hard. But we found that a very large number of the stories of these migrants was related to repression that they or their families had experienced in their hometowns.
