Eion's are a new kind of particle, they have properties like spin and mass. Anyons are qualitatively different; they have a kind of memory as well. I made them physically plausible by showing how they could be realized using the kinds of things we actually have in matter. It was only about two years ago now that really definitive tests were done to see if it works.
